What is a Top Hat?

A Top Hat is a component in your vehicle’s suspension system, sitting at the top of the strut assembly. It connects the strut to the vehicle's body and helps absorb road vibrations for a smoother, quieter ride.

The Top Hat comes pre-installed from the factory in your vehicle suspension, and you might be tempted to reuse the old one when upgrading it (nothing wrong with that). However, many top hat kits are available on the market, including the top plate that connects to the vehicle, a rubber isolator, and bolts.

Why replace the Factory Top Hat?

As we've mentioned, there's nothing wrong with keeping the one from the factory. However, it can wear out over time, especially as the rubber isolator breaks down. Typically, they last between 3 to 5 years. If you do off-roading, they can wear out faster due to the extra strain on the suspension.

To keep your ride smooth and reduce noise and vibrations, upgrading to an aftermarket one is recommended. At Mudify, we offer Top Hat Kits that are built to last over 10 years, and they can handle both on and off-road driving. You can even find lift kits that come with the front shocks pre-assembled, including the Top Hat already installed.
